Macédoine

Named after a region famous for its mix of cultures, macédoine simply means a colorful jumble — in this case, of the season's best fruit, cut small and left to mingle with a little sugar and lemon. Nothing could be simpler, or more refreshing on a warm afternoon.

  1. Wash and cut all the fruit into small, even pieces.
  2. Place the fruit in a large bowl.
  3. Sprinkle with sugar and the juice of the lemon.
  4. Toss gently and let it rest in the fridge for at least 30 minutes, so the juices combine.
  5. Serve chilled, on its own or with a scoop of vanilla gelato.
